Everyday Cosplay: Rowena

It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with Supernatural, but lately I’ve also become obsessed with the newest cast member of the show, Ruth Connell, who plays the amazing Rowena, witch extraordinaire and Crowley’s mother. Rowena is awesome, and even though she’s a bit evil, I kind of love her.

I’m fully obsessed with her attitude and her killer Scottish accent–seriously, I could listen to her say “Fergus” all day. Look at this gif:

…you can actually see her accent–she’s also got some amazing style. While I can’t give myself her gorgeous head of long, thick, curly red hair, I knew that I had to try to channel a bit of her sassy, Scottish style into an everyday cosplay look. Of course, she’s got a knack for wearing fabulous gowns, so I included two dresses in this one, just because it’s isn’t truly Rowena without a few fabulous dress options.

Are you as obsessed with Rowena and her style as I am? What do you think of her story arc this season on Supernatural? Let me know in the comments!

Supernatural Clips: A New Night and a Mini-Hiatus

Supernatural is on a bit of a mini-hiatus for a few weeks, and when it returns, things will be a bit different. For a while now, Supernatural Tuesday has been the norm.

supernatural tuesdayHowever, it seems like the show has finally moved out of the Mystery Spot. As you’ve probably heard, the show is moving to Wednesday nights. I’m pretty excited about the move, as I’m usually unable to watch episodes live thanks to Tuesday night ballet. The only bad news is, like I said, we have got to wait a few weeks for a new episode–which is particularly awful given the fact that last week’s episode ended with Sam delivering the super ominous line…
supernatural dean's in trouble
However, to hold you over, here is a clip of what’s to come in the next episodes of Supernatural. Hang tight, SPN family! And remember…

supernatural wednesday

And, just to make the wait easier still–and to take your mind off of Dean being in trouble–here is the gag reel from Season 9. You can look back at old Supernatural posts to get clips from past episodes, and relive the 200th with my post on “Fan Fiction“. You’re welcome.

Supernatural comes back to the CW on Wednesday, March 18! Will you be watching?

Supernatural Clips: Trailer and Clip from the Tonight’s Episode “Halt & Catch Fire”

You guys, I have to be honest. I’m not caught up on Supernatural. This really bums me out, especially since last week’s episode brought back my favorite version of young Dean, the Dylan Everett version:

This kid does an amazing job portraying Dean Winchester. Can we start a petition or something to make the Supernatural spin-off focus on the young Winchesters with Dylan Everett playing young Dean? Like I said, I haven’t seen last week’s episode, and from the pictures I have seen, Everett isn’t back on the show because of flashbacks. So even though last week’s episode probably doesn’t show a lot of story from their younger days, Everett’s episode from last season was amazing and showed a ton of story potential (certainly a lot more potential than Bloodlines had). Check out this clip from Everett’s first episode of Supernatural:

If nothing else, can we at least make him the new, permanent actor for young Dean like Colin Ford was for Sam?

I’m getting off topic here. The great Dylan Everett debate aside, let’s focus on this week’s new episode, “Halt & Catch Fire”. This week’s episode looks a bit like a MOTW episode, which we haven’t had for a while this season.

From the looks of the trailer, tonight’s episode is gonna be pretty fun and lighthearted (for Supernatural, anyway), with more goofy Dean than we’ve seen in a while, and some actual happy bro-ments. It’s been like quite a while since we’ve had that this season, so I’m pretty excited for a bit of a lighter episode. Check out this picture from tonight’s episode:

I don’t know about you, but that looks like the beginning of a good, old fashioned salt-n-burn to me! Hopefully this week will feel a bit like the 200th episode felt, a quick, lighthearted breath of fresh air in an incredibly dark and heavy season (it just won’t be as musical and awesome as “Fan Fiction” was).

Will you be watching Supernatural tonight? What have you thought of this season so far? Do you love Dylan Everett as young Dean as much as I do? Let me know in the comments!

Supernatural: What Happened To Charlie in Oz?

Guys! It’s an all new Supernatural tonight, and guess who’s back???charlie spn

Felicia Day’s Charlie is probably one of my favorite characters on Supernatural. She’s awkward, she’s funny, and I just love her relationship with Sam and Dean.

bromentShe’s an utterly relatable blend of goofy and brave. Any character that is introduced through an elevator dance montage is tops in my book.

Part of the reason we love her so much though, is because she is such a breath of fresh air on the show. Charlie has been through a lot. She’s certainly got her own pain (and, in true Winchester hunter-style, she’s even died and been brought back), but she manages to be a pretty happy character. For a show that is usually a twisted, hot, steamy mess of darkness, sadness, and, you know…

feelings…it’s nice to have Charlie around to bring some lightness and perspective. She also is able to bring a bit of that normal, human fear into situations. Because Sam and Dean have been hunting since they were kids, they often times have no trouble bursting head first into crazy dangerous situations. Monsters don’t really freak them out, and really the only thing they’re afraid of is losing each other.

That’s all great, but let’s be honest: monsters are scary. The hunter lifestyle is scary. Charlie is able to bring that real fear into the show, but because she is so awesome she is able to overcome that (totally natural and incredibly understandable) fear and help the Winchesters bring down some nasty monsters. I just love watching the three of them work together…

…and don’t even get me started on Dean and Charlie’s adorable relationship. I love Dean and Sam’s sibling relationship, but there is just something really special about the sibling-type love Dean and Charlie have for one another.

Look at those two nerds. I just love 'em.

Look at those two nerds. I just love ’em.

While I was really excited for Charlie to get the chance to go with Dorothy into Oz–I was also glad that it would stop her from hunting by herself–I wasn’t sure what it would mean for her and her relationship with the boys. After seeing the trailer for tonight’s episode, it sounds like something pretty intense happened to Charlie while she was following the yellow brick road with Dorothy.

So what’s the deal? What happened to Charlie in Oz? Where’s Dorothy? Why has Charlie moved away from her brightly colored outfits and classic, Felicia Day fast-talking to black leather outfits and slow, sexy villain-speak? Why is she holding knives to old lady’s throats, and why, oh why, is she fighting Dean?

My guess? This isn’t some new version of Charlie, but instead something got to Charlie. Before the mid-season premiere last week, Robbie Thompson explained that Charlie brought “something really scary” back from Oz. It stands to reason that the really scary something didn’t just follow her out of Oz, but it maybe rode her out of Oz. Maybe the really scary thing she brought back from Oz is something within her. We don’t really know the extent of the monsters and villains in Oz, but from our brief encounter with the Wicked Witch in Charlie’s last episode, there is some definite nastiness that rests outside the Emerald City. It isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that something gnarly from Oz decided to jump into the Winchester’s world and used Charlie as their conduit.

I just really hope that they aren’t turning Charlie from the Queen of Moons into some slick, hardened hunter. Because, really, she was perfect before Oz. Sure, she wasn’t fearless like Sam and Dean, but that’s a totally normal, healthy reaction to the stuff she had to go up against. However, even though she would occasionally get scared, she never let it stop her from doing what needed to be done to stop a monster from hurting people. Charlie was brave, loving, funny, smart, and inventive. She doesn’t need some bad-ass makeover, because she was pretty much a bad ass from the start.

Maybe that’s what she learned on her quest down the yellow brick road in Oz. She didn’t need someone to make her a bad ass. The bad assery was inside of her all along.

Let’s hope we just get our favorite red-haired nerd back soon!

Will you be watching tonight? What do you think happened to Charlie in Oz? Let me know in the comments!

Supernatural 200th: Fan Fiction Recap

So the 200th episode is behind us, and it turns out all my fears about the 200th being an awful, random, out-of-place episode were for naught. I cannot tell you how much I loved “Fan Fiction”. It. Was. Amazing.

Before we jump into it, as always, spoiler alert for those not caught up with Supernatural.

spn titles

When the 200th’s “musical-ish” episode was first announced, the show-runners called it a “love letter to the fans”. I could not think of a more perfect description of this episode. They took stuff from all over the fandom, the random fan fic, Wincest, Destiel, Sastiel, the Samulet, and even the unsettling fact that we remember Adam more easily than Sam and Dean seem to…

adam2…and they brought it all together in a wonderful way. Sure, they poked fun at the fandom, but it was all in fun. As is always the case with the metasodes, Sam and especially Dean were 110% done with the Supernatural fangirls, which I find hysterical…

dean is done

It’s subtext, Dean!!!

…but, like I said, it was all in good fun. They represented and tipped their hat to all corners of the fandom. They also introduced us to the episode’s real hero, Poncho Man.

poncho man

…Maybe it was just me who became an insta-fan of Poncho Man. Either way, through all the jokes and the metasode stuff, the central message of the episode was clear. It was a giant, fandom-wide hug from the cast and crew of Supernatural in the form of an episode.

jared 200

The episode’s central plot was a basic MOTW episode. A high school’s production of an original musical based on Carver Edlund’s Supernatural books draws the goddess Calliope (a muse), who kidnaps anyone who tries to halt production, and will ultimately kill the author of the play. There was a ton of great, MOTW hunting action, but most importantly, it was chalk full of great BM scenes.

Really though, the heart of the episode was the meta stuff. It showed how plugged in to their fandom, and how much they care about the SPN family. For instance, they ended the episode with a feels-inducing cover of Carry on Wayward Son…

…and a super surprising appearance from this guy:

All in all, it was perfect, and I think I’m gonna have to watch it 100 more times because I loved it so very much. I’ve got a couple of “special feature” clips for you below, a BTS clip and a video on the 200th episode party. Check those out, and be sure to let me know what you thought of the episode in the comments! We’re back to business as usual with next week’s episode, “Ask Jeeves“.

Supernatural Recap: Reichenbach

If you haven’t checked out my recap of last week’s episode, head over here. And if you’re not caught up with Supernatural, this is your official spoiler alert.

I’m gonna break this up into two sections. The Cas, Hannah, and Metatron section, and the Dean, Crowley, and Sam section.

Let’s start with Cas and Co:

Cas was in bad shape during the season premiere, and he’s only doing worse this week. While Cas seems pretty content to just let himself waste away, Hannah isn’t cool with him dying. So she pays a visit to heaven-jail and tries to get any remaining bits of Cas’ grace from Metatron. It doesn’t go too well, to say the least.

Metatron is willing (or at least he says he’s willing) to hand over what remains of Cas’ grace in exchange for his freedom. Hannah is willing to make that trade, but Cas walks in and stops her. He also does a bit of smack talking about how, though he may be dying, his happy place is resting in the knowledge that Metatron is rotting away in heaven-jail. Metatron does some smack talking back about how he’ll get out and kill everyone. You know, pretty standard. Ultimately, Cas is still dying, Metatron is still locked up, and Hannah is still trying to figure out a way to save Cas.

Unexpected favorite thing of this episode? Hannah. This is the first episode where I’ve started to actually care about her. We’re starting to see a bit more of her personality apart from being a soldier, and we also get to see her genuine care and concern for Castiel. More importantly, we’re seeing some of that angel awkwardness we haven’t really experienced since we were first introduced to Cas.

3beansurprise whats the surprise

I love this show, but I also know what it does to female characters that I love. I mean…

…and also…

…and lest we forget…

I could go on, but you get the idea. I have a real sinking feeling that Hannah is going to die and give Cas her grace. I mean, I don’t want Cas to die, but I’m really hoping that we don’t have to pick between Cas and Hannah. Her character has some real potential, and I’d love to see where it takes us. We’ll have to see what happens in the coming weeks. I’m pulling for ya, Hannah!

Let’s move on to Crowley, Sam, and Dean:

Demon Dean was kinda intriguing in episode one, I’ll admit it. Maybe it’s just me, but I wasn’t as freaked out by Demon Dean in the premiere as I thought I’d be. He didn’t seem insanely different from Dean, just a lot more lecherous and a lot more violent.

That definitely changed in Reichenbach. Holy crap.

First off, he flashed the demon eyes a lot more this episode.

demon dean eyes

He defied the King of Hell (who had been helping Dean feed the Mark, remember) in front of two other demons, simultaneously hitting Crowley right in the bestie-feels:

no besties

When Sam finally found Dean and promised to help him, Dean responded by saying:

scary dean1 scarydean1

Then he threatened Sam again after Sam captured Dean, and tried to take him back to the Bunker:

no mercy

And, most horrifyingly of all, when Sam mentioned how messy the Impala was, Dean actually said:

Just a car?!?

Yeah, okay, I’m officially freaked out by Demon Dean. Major props to Jensen Ackles for his amazing portrayal of Demon Dean. Namely, his ability to find a way to make Dean’s usually endearing smile and snark inherently dark and terrifying:

For me, the big question of the episode is what is truly left of Dean? He spends the entire episode violently pushing everyone away from him, threatening the one person he literally sold his soul to protect, neglecting the Impala, and acting like a complete pig (That scene of him at the strip club? Yeah, not a fan of that).

At the same time, there are still glimpses of Dean. I didn’t notice this, and will have to go back and re-watch to verify, but word on the interwebz is when Dean sat down at the piano, he was playing “Hey Jude”–which is huge if it’s true since “Hey Jude” is the song his mom would sing to him as a kid instead of a lullaby. And even though Dean wasn’t thrilled to see Sam turn up…

…he was pretty quick to beat the snot out of Cole, the guy who had kidnapped and threatened to kill Sam in the last episode.

While it could just be defiance, it’s also worth mentioning Crowley commissioning Dean to kill a cheating wife after her husband made a crossroads deal to have her killed. Dean decides to kill the husband instead because Dean thought the husband was a creep–which he was, by the way.

While these are only brief moments, and they’re still rather dark, it makes me wonder how much of Dean is really still there. Dean’s always been riddled with guilt and feelings of worthlessness, so it’s possible that maybe Dean is embracing the Mark because he thinks he deserves it. However, he’s lucid enough to push those he cares about away from him so he doesn’t hurt them.

I might be grasping at straws here, but Demon Dean is kind of killing my soul, guys. Sadly, after checking out the trailer for next week’s episode, “Soul Survivor”, it looks like things are gonna have to get worse before they get better.

Check out the trailer for “Soul Survivor” below, and leave your thoughts about “Reichenbach” in the comments!

The Year of the Deanmon

Warning: If you’re not caught up on Supernatural, and you care about spoilers, stop reading IMMEDIATELY.

I’ve been talking a LOT about season 10 of Supernatural. If you’ve missed it, you can check out my posts on the musical episode, the season 10 promo poster and fan-made posters, and the “Road So Far“. This is gonna be a big year for our favorite hunters. We haven’t really ended a season on such an edge-of-your-seat cliffhanger since Sam accidentally started the apocalypse.

sam oops

Well, after a ton of teasers, we’ve finally seen the official trailer for season 10. In short? It looks like Demon Dean,or “Deanmon”, which is what the CW is trying to make happen…

not gonna happen

…is going to be a BIG handful, and Sam is going to cause a lot of destruction trying to fix Dean.

One of the most interesting things I took from the trailer is the talk of what Demon De–I mean “Deanmon”

sam eye roll

–really is. We all know Dean still has his anti-possession tattoo, and we even see it in the trailer. Of course, nothing really possessed Dean after Metatron stabbed him. He was just sort of ushered by Crowley over to the dark side.

Though we only got snippets, obviously, there is a part in the trailer where it is mentioned that whatever has created Demon Dean has spawned from his own demons, which we know he has a TON of. It will be really interesting to learn the origin of what exactly has created “Deanmon”.

dean eye rollThe other piece of this–that wasn’t addressed in the trailer–is after Cain transferred The Mark to Dean, Dean promised Cain he’d kill him after right after killing Abaddon. As far as we know, Dean hasn’t made good on his promise to Cain. I’m hopeful this means we’ll see some more of Cain this season, and maybe he’ll be able to shed some light on what really happened to my favorite hunter other than, you know, the obvious:

demon dean

I’ve got the trailer below for your viewing pleasure. I’d love to hear what you think about season 10 in the comments!

Nerdophiles Post: Supernatural Season 10 Fan Made Posters are Amazing

I’m over at Nerdophiles (I promise I’ll be blogging here more, too, life has just been CRAZY) talking about the less-than-stellar Supernatural season 10 promo poster, and the awesome fan-made posters I’ve seen around the interwebz. I hope you all will join me over there

The CW has released the promo poster for Supernatural‘s 10th season. Honestly, it is kind of underwhelming. Take a peek:

I’m rarely fan of Supernatural promo posters, as they are usually some sort of generic shot of Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles looking into the camera with varying levels of smolder in their eyes (add in Misha Collins and/or Mark Sheppard, depending on the season). Sure, those boys are pretty nice to look at, but for a fandom that creates so much cool and creative (and let’s face it, sometimes creepy) original work, I’ve always found it to be a bit of a shame the promo posters don’t reflect any of that creativity.  Also, is it just me, or does Jensen look taller than Jared in the season 10 poster??? I digress…

Supernatural: Season 10 and The Road So Far

You guys, I’m so excited to announce that I’ve signed on to be a contributor at Nerdophiles (because, you know, I definitely needed another website to write for) Today my first post is going live for them, and I couldn’t be more excited! I hope you’ll join me over there! Here’s an excerpt:

I’m just going to say this now: Spoiler. Alert. Only read this post if you are 1)100% caught up on Supernatural or 2) Don’t care about reading spoilers. You’ve been warned…

We’ve been through a lot with the Winchesters. We’ve been following Sam and Dean around the country since 2005, and it seems like forever ago that we first heard Dean talk about saving people and hunting things.

With season 10 only a few months away (season 10 premieres October 7), The CW is starting to get us excited with this little “The Road So Far” clip…

See the clip and read the rest over at Nerdophiles
