Everyday Cosplay: Everyday Captain Marvel

With July 4th coming up, I decided to get a tad patriotic with my everyday cosplay look for today with an outfit inspired by none other than Captain Marvel. However, as I was compiling the outfit, I couldn’t settle on a casual or dressier look..so I picked both. Take a peek! Everyday Captain Marvel

Do you like the casual or the dressier look better? Are you as excited for the Captain Marvel movie as I am? Let’s talk about it in the comments!

Denver Comic Con: Everyday Cosplay Outfit Lineup

Denver Comic Con is only days away, so it’s time for me to officially land on the outfits I’ll be wearing at the con. I’ve already let you all in on one of the outfits,  Everyday Walter White/Heisenberg:

Everyday Heisenberg Cosplay

While I will probably be making a few changes to the original outfit I laid out in my Polyvore set, I just couldn’t resist going to the con as The One Who Knocks.

The other outfits I’ve decided on are Everyday Black Widow:

Everyday Black Widow Cosplay

…and everyday Scarlet Witch:

Everyday Scarlet Witch

I promise here, before all of  you, to not attempt any sort of a Wanda Maximoff-esque Romani accent at the con.

Of course, this is me we’re talking about, and I like to procrastinate and wait until the last minute on stuff like this. I created an Everyday Dragonborn look last week that I kind of love, and ever since GeekGirlCon last year, I’ve wanted to try to pull off an Arrow Everyday Cosplay. However, though I really love those two looks, it’d require me to build two entire outfits from scratch, and I’m trying to save my funds for con swag. So though there is a small part of me that wants to change up my outfit choices, I will most likely stick with the three outfits I’ve chosen. Besides, I really, really love the Heisenberg, Scarlet Witch, and Black Widow looks. Super adorbs.

How are your cosplay and con outfits coming? Let me know your cosplay, everyday cosplay, and outfit plans for this year’s con season in the comments. And remember, if you’re in Denver and want to attend Denver Comic Con, buy your tickets now! The 3-day passes have sold out, but you can still get adult and child day passes. Let me know in the comments if you’re coming to DCC; I’d love to say hello!

Denver Comic Con Prep: The Outfits

I’ve made it no secret that I suck at cosplay. So unlike last year’s Denver Comic Con, I’ve decided to stick more to my game plan for last year‘s GeekGirlCon, and attend the con in everyday cosplay. Much like GGC, I’m going to the con with a press badge (woo-HOO!), so I don’t really want to be running about the con, trying to get my Lois Lane on in some uncomfy, bulky, hot cosplay.

So everyday cosplay it is! I’ve been thinking of the different outfits I’d like to try over the three days at the con, and I’ve been able to narrow them down to a few finalists. Take a peek:

Black Widow

Everyday Black Widow Cosplay

I love Black Widow so much, and I’ve wanted to wear a Black Widow-inspired outfit for quite a while now. Also, I finally plopped down the money and bought the Her Universe Black Widow jacket from ThinkGeek (Her Universe was sold out in my size). So I feel like this one is almost meant to be. My only concern is that it might get a little toasty at the con in the jacket.

Walter White/Heisenberg

Everyday Heisenberg Cosplay

I’ve mentioned that I was watching Breaking Bad for the first time over the Walking Dead hiatus. And if you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that I managed to zip through that entire show in a little over a month. So while I’m super sad that I’ve managed to already finish what was arguably one of the best shows on television EVER, the show also really inspired me to create a Heisenberg everyday cosplay look. The only problem is, with the exception of the boots, tights, and the specs, I don’t own anything remotely Water White/Heisenberg-ish.

Scarlet Witch

Everyday Scarlet Witch

I love Wanda/Scarlet Witch’s look from Age of Ultron. This outfit wouldn’t be too hot to wear in a crowded convention center, and it would be super comfy to move around in. I also own most of the pieces for this look. Now if I could only get that mind control stuff down, I’d be set…

Everyday Hawkeye

This is another look that I just love, and one that would be cool enough for the con. Sadly, I don’t own that awesome tank, and it’s sold out from the store. I could make the outfit work without that tank, but I just love that thing. Regardless, this one is another easy look, and I just love Hawkeye–movie and comics version.

Darth Vader

Everyday Darth Vader

There’s been a lot of Marvel love in this post, but this Vader look is one of my favorite everyday cosplay looks I’ve pulled together. This one would be incredibly easy, but also incredibly cute. I’ve been wanting to make this outfit work since I first pulled it together–I just need the ring and the hoodie.

Everyday Arrow

Whether you call him the Hood, Green Arrow, the Vigilante, or Oliver Queen, you have to admit that he’s got a pretty sweet, superhero style. Though I love Ollie’s vigilante look, this is another look that I’d have to basically build from scratch. However, it’s also one I’d probably wear a lot if I do it well, so it’s a toss-up.

What are your favorites? Should I try an outfit that I didn’t mention? What are some of your favorite everyday cosplay looks? Let me know in the comments! Also, if you’re planning on going to Denver Comic Con, let me know! I’d love to say hey! If you haven’t bought your ticket to the con yet, you should definitely buy your tickets now–they’re going fast!

Fandom Nails: Avengers!

It’s Ultron week, so I’ve been focusing pretty heavily on getting you ready for the premiere with tips on throwing an awesome watch party and some everyday cosplay suggestions. Of course I couldn’t let this week go by without doing some Avengers-inspired fandom nails, right?

Weeellll, Avengers nails weren’t as easy as I thought they’d be. I began with these grand plans of putting very elaborate designs on my nails that would clearly and perfectly represent each Avenger. However, after the zillionth failed attempt at painting a tiny mjolnir on my nails…

i'm done

Still, I wasn’t ready to give up entirely. I packed up my nail polish for the night, and came back the next day to give it another try. Only this time I opted for some less-obvious tributes to my favorite group of superheroes. Here’s what I used (spoiler alert: I used a crapton of nail polish):

Nail Polish

OPI, Yoga-ta Get This BlueSalon Perfect, Black DiamondSalon Perfect, White OutNicole by OPI High Shine Top CoatPetites, Passion OrangeNYC, White Lights GlitterPure Ice, BewareSally Hansen, Slick SlateSally Hansen, Black HeartSally Hansen, Purple CrazeOrly, Teal Unreal

I got my inspiration from other nail designs I found online. However, most designs I found were super colorful. I decided that I didn’t want to have so many contrasting colors happening on my nails, so I opted for blue on my ring fingers, and then I alternated between the slate and the black on my other nails. I work in an office, y’all. I can’t go around work with bright red, green, purple, AND blue nails, yafeelme?

After picking base colors that would both serve my purposes and keep my bosses happy, I tackled the designs. For Thor, I opted for a lightning bolt rather than the mjolnir–way easier. I went for red (okay, dark orange–it was all I had), white, and blue stripes for Cap (I’ve seen several Captain America nails with stars, too, but I am so bad at drawing stars on paper, so I didn’t want to even attempt them on my nails). I created a arc reactor-esque design for Iron Man, and I drew a basic arrow for Hawkeye. Since I was quickly running out of fingers, I tossed symmetry to the wind and used my thumbs to rep Black Widow and Hulk. On one thumb, I drew purple and green (okay, teal–again, all I had) stripes for Hulk–I wasn’t even going to attempt to draw a DNA strand, radioactive symbol, or Hulk-face on my nails–and a red hourglass for Black Widow.

I added a green glitter to my Hulk nail to bring out the green, and on the other nails I added a silver glitter. I felt like a bit of glitter gave the nails a bit of superhero magnificence. Also, I just love glitter. Here’s how the nails turned out:

Avengers NailsWhat do you think? Have you tried any Avengers nail designs? Are you doing anything special for the premiere of Avengers: Age of Ultron? Let me know your premiere plans–be they watch parties, everyday cosplay, fandom nails, or something completely different–in the comments!

More Characters Revealed for Marvel’s All-New, All-Different Avengers!

Marvel just released an image featuring a few more of the characters we can expect in Marvel’s Free Comic Book Day comic, The All-New, All-Different Avengers. These guys will officially assemble after Secret Wars ends this fall. Because their sales are rocking the house, it’s no huge surprise to find the Goddess of Thunder and Ms. Marvel gracing the cover (they were revealed yesterday), but now we’ve got a closer look at two of the other figures gracing the cover: the Vision and Nova. Check it out! all new all different avengersWho do you think the silhouetted characters are? Avengers: Age of Ultron Teaser Trailer Released

UPDATE: In addition to the teaser trailer, Marvel has also released a trailer poster. Check it out!

Despite Marvel’s plans to release the first official trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron during next week’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the trailer was leaked yesterday. While Marvel promptly pulled it down and made this official statement in regard to the leak…

…Marvel ultimately decided to give in to Hydra’s bullying and release the trailer earlier than planned. I’ll be honest, I’m not really complaining. Take a peek:

For those wondering, here is my official review of the Age of Ultron trailer:

Thor Will be a Woman–In the Comics, Anyway

Thor is one of Marvel Universe’s oldest comic book characters, and one of my personal favorites (comic and movie). However, the cost to wield the mighty Mjolnir is high, and the Uru Hammer only picks the worthiest of vessels. For a long time now, that has been the buff, blonde-haired male version of Thor:

However, the comic will be launching a new story line written by Jason Aaron. In Aaron’s story, the Thor we all know will be deemed unworthy to meet the requirements etched on the Mjolnir. Instead, a woman will be chosen as worthy to wield the hammer and go by the name Thor. So I guess it is time to make a bit of an edit to the Mjolnir’s inscription, “Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall posses the power of Thor.”

Superhero Movies and Television Shows Galore!

There is a lot of really cool stuff coming down the pike superhero-wise. There’s also a lot of stuff coming that has comic book and superhero movie fans alike pretty darn nervous. So let’s talk about what’s coming up.

1. Agent Carter

Can I just say how very excited I am for this? Here’s the official synopsis from Marvel:

“Marvel’s Agent Carter,” starring Captain America’s Hayley Atwell follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life–Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” along with the short “Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.”

Starring Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, “Marvel’s Agent Carter” is executive produced by Christopher Markus, Steve McFeely, Tara Butters, Michele Fazekas, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Jeph Loeb.

Let’s absolutely put this in the pile of superhero-related stuff that I am STOKED about. Right now they are saying the show will air over an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D hiatus–the estimation being over the winter– but an official release date hasn’t been set yet. I’m WAY behind on Agents, but I absolutely love the show. I think Marvel has done a great job showing us the different sides of the Marvel universe, from the individual superhero movies, to the Avengers movies, to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and now Agent Carter. Basically, Marvel gives you the option to drown yourself as deep into Marvel stories and characters as you’d like. I’m for that.

I am also really excited about Marvel’s decision to develop the story of an awesome female character. While DC fans are still anxiously awaiting a stand-alone Wonder Woman movie, Marvel is releasing stuff like Agent Carter and working out a standalone Black Widow flick. Marvel has some great female characters, and I’m glad they are allowing them a chance to shine on their own.

I’m definitely a Marvel girl (not that I don’t love DC characters, too), and I’m usually the first to stand by Marvel movies. I mean, sure, they’ve had their low points…

…but everybody has those periods in their life that they’d rather not mention, right? Despite my love of Marvel and Marvel movies, there is one set of superheroes and their movies that I always approach tentatively, which brings me to the second thing on my list.

2. Gambit

Channing Tatum starring as Gambit in X Men Movie Channing Tatum On Board to Play X Mens Gambit in Solo Movie

It was officially announced today that Channing Tatum will be playing Gambit. What’s more, this won’t be an X-Men sequel, but it will be a standalone film. The X-Men movies have kind of been a mixed bag for me. I loved some, I’ve not loved some, and I’ve just not cared about some. So I really don’t know what to think about this Channing Tatum-Gambit movie, mainly because I’m really having a hard time trusting Tatum to do justice to Gambit by portraying him as more than a hot guy with some sick fighting skills. Gambit has a unique attitude and charisma behind his pretty face and tricky fighting. Gambit can be tough to trust,  but he is also a guy that you love. I don’t know if Channing Tatum can be that guy. I also don’t know if Channing Tatum can pull of the Louisiana accent.

The other thing? I really liked Taylor Kitsch as Gambit. Like I said before, the X-Men movies can be quite the mixed bag, and unfortunately for Kitsch I don’t think he got to star in one of the better X-Men flicks (X-Men Origins: Wolverine). Still, when I see this Gambit:

I get kind of bummed out that this is our new Gambit:

Hey! Speaking of concerning casting…

3. Batman

The first picture of Ben Affleck as Batman was published today.

*sigh* Here’s my thing with Batman movies: there hasn’t really been one end all, be all Batman. While you can always expect Peter Parker to be awkwardly charming, and Thor to be a loveable Asgardian warrior, Batman’s character varies pretty greatly depending on who portrays him. We’ve got the Adam West Batman, cartoonish and a bit goofy. We’ve got the Val Kilmer/Michael Keaton/George Clooney Batmans, cartoonish but a bit darker. Then we have the Bale Batman. Nothing cartoonish or goofy about that Batman, just dark and gloomy with a scratchy voice. So, am I dubious of Ben Affleck’s ability to do justice to Batman? Sure. However, since Batman is one of those superheroes which have gone through so many extremely different incarnations, this role will really only add to the Batman universe. Yeah, it may suck, which will be bad news for the Justice League movie, but Batman has really had his fair share of good and bad interpretations. We can just add this one to the pile.

But there is something Batman-related that I’m tentatively excited about…

4. Gotham

I really love this new wave of superhero shows that let us see the side of fighting crime that we don’t normally see, the everyday humans working tirelessly along the superheroes to keep the peace, like in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Agent Carter, and now Gotham. I think adding that often ignored part of a superhero’s world really adds a lot of richness to the stories of our favorite superheroes. Gotham will focus on the infamous city before Bruce Wayne becomes Batman. Instead, the show will focus on Commissioner Gordon, and his rise from rookie cop to Commissioner. We’ll see Bruce Wayne’s parents die, we’ll see some of the famous Batman Big Bads like Penguin, the Joker, and Catwoman before they come into their Big Bad selves, and of course the show will have some original bad guys as well. I think this show could be really, really cool, but Fox has a bad reputation of being quick to give shows the ax (need I even mention Firefly?). I posted a first look at Gotham below. The show looks like it has a ton of potential, but I’m waiting to get my hopes up until I actually can see a few episodes.

5. Avengers 2

Okay, there isn’t really any new news on this one, but I cannot WAIT for this movie to hit theaters. Seriously, OH MY GOODNESS. Let’s just look at some of the released pics from the movie:

Actually she's probably on the offensive here. Annihilating Ultron's minions is all in a day's work.

I don’t have anything clever to say about Avengers 2, I’m just really, really excited. 2015 can’t come soon enough.

How about you? How do you feel about the new movies and TV shows coming to us from the DC and Marvel universe? Sound off in the comments!
