To the Year That Kicked My Ass…

2015 is nearly history. I’ve got to be honest, while there are some years that I’m a bit sad to see a year come and go, I’ve got a very different emotion as I officially cast off 2015.

the master bye bye

Good riddance, 2015.

You might have noticed that I was off the grid for the past few days. Turns out, I was hella burned out, so I took some of my own advice and gave myself the break I needed–even though it was completely unplanned. This year was a tough one for me. I started a new job at the beginning of the year that surprised me by how challenging it was for me professionally, mentally, and emotionally. I was offered my first paid writing gig that I had to quit due to my new job. I struggled to find balance in my life between work, blogging, ballet, sleep, and spending time with the people I love. Most days, I felt like I was failing miserably at all of it, or I felt so incredibly exhausted that I just didn’t care anymore. As the year went on, I felt more and more like I was drowning.

Sure, this year wasn’t all bad–not by a long shot. This year my brother and his wife had their first kid, bringing my first biological nephew into my life (I say biological because married into a family that consists of a small army of children). Though I was officially hired at the end of 2014, in 2015 I really hit my stride writing for Geek & Sundry–a goal I’d had for several years. I got to meet amazing writers from DC Comics at this year’s Denver Comic Con, I was in a dance at my ballet studio that infused ballet and Batman, I got to meet a blog buddy in real life, and loads of other wonderful things. Still, this year was a tough, and I’m ready to officially bid it farewell. So 2015?

I’m all about 2016 now, and I can’t wait to see what adventures this year brings me. Unlike years past, I’m trying to make a conscience choice to make 2016 great. While I’ve already listed out a few general goals for the new year, I wanted to make some specific resolutions for the new year. I even wrote them down on this adorable card from Anthropologie:

2015 was tough, and I’m glad to have it behind me, but it’s made me stronger and helped me decide what I really want for my life and what I need to feel happy and healthy. I’m ready for 2016. Thanks for reading this past year, and I can’t wait to share my new adventures with you. Happy New Year, blog friends!

Was 2015 a rough year for you or was it a great year? What are you looking forward to in 2016, and what are some of your resolutions for the year? Let me know in the comments!

My year was off to a pretty rough start, but after the midway point it started to even out. Now I’m in a much better place and I’m happier than I was. I have high hopes for 2016! Best of luck to both of us 🙂

its good to have a break, I don’t blame you, especially at this time of year. Blogging, writing, ect is great fun, but sometimes you need some time away from it to recharge. I write on several sites now, it can be a challenge to balance everything, so I made a point of taking a break over the Christmas period to be with friends and family. Sure 2016 will be a be a good year for you as well. One thing I did learn in 2015 was that I can’t do everything or be everywhere, so if there’s one bit of advice I could pass on, it would certainly be pace yourself and try and find a balance that suits you best. Anyway, hope you had a nice Christmas. Been nice here in UK, very mild for time of year, unusual for us, and I’d like to wish you all the best for 2016!

I’m glad you chose to take the break…so necessary for sanity’s sake sometimes. I’m looking forward to whatever 2016 brings here to the blog, and I hope it’s a less stressful year for you! 2015 for me wasn’t too stressful (actually, in terms of anxiety management it was one of my best) but I felt like not much happened in terms of personal growth, goals or change. I’m calling it my year of preparation…I made a lot of decisions about THIS year, so I’m really excited to implement new plans in 2016, for my life, my blog, and other things. Happy New Year, Kendall, I hope 2016 rocks for you!
