5 Fandom Friday: My Top Comfort Films and TV Shows

fandom.5.friday

I’ve got a bit of a routine if I’m stuck at home sick, but if I’m having a tough day, the introvert in me usually likes to be able to sort of shut down for a bit. The best way to do that without being a complete weirdo, sitting along in a dark and quiet room (though I have to admit to occasionally driving home from work in a totally silent car after particularly rough days), is to watch some TV. These are a few of my go-to movies and shows that can instantly make a crappy day a bit brighter.

1. Singin’ in the Rain

This is one of my top five favorite movies of all time. I’m a sucker for musicals, and this one has some of the best song and dance numbers around. I submit that it is scientifically impossible to watch this film and not at least crack a smile.

2. Legally Blonde

I can’t help it; I love this movie. It’s fun with a healthy dose of girl power. It also got turned into a pretty fun musical. Because I love you all, here’s a song from the musical:

3. The IT Crowd

IT Crowd is, hands down, one of my all-time favorite shows, and this clip happens to come from my favorite episode. Each episode is lighthearted, slightly ridiculous, and rife with that British humour that I do so love. Popping on IT Crowd on Netflix and just letting it play is one of the best ways to turn a crappy day around.

4. Arrested Development

I love this show so much. Arrested Development’s bizarre, witty humor is my favorite thing, and they have some of the best running jokes around (and that is why you always leave a note!). The Charlie Brown sad walk, featured in the video above, is probably one of my favorites.

5. Monty Python’s Flying Circus

My parents introduced me to the wonderful world of Monty Python years ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since the first time I heard, “Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelled of elderberries.” Monty Python’s Flying Circus always makes me laugh, even on the crappiest of days.

Honorable Mention:
Parks and Recreation

I love this show, and Leslie and the rest of the folks in Pawnee always make me smile. However, since the show literally just ended, I’m still dealing with a bit of post-show blues. So once I finish the mourning period and stages of grief you go through when a favorite show ends, it will be restored to its rightful place as a “comfort show”.

How about you? What shows and movies always make you feel better on a crappy day? Let me know in the comments! Hi! I wanted to say thanks for stopping by my blog, but OMG your list is fantastic. Singin In The Rain maybe, definitely should have been on my list. It probably would have been, but I don’t own it, so I forget about it sometimes. Definitely an all-time favorite, though. And the IT Crowd is just fantastic. I avoided TV shows because that’s just a whole different can of worms! 🙂

It took me nearly too long to get into The IT Crowd. But i just say I wasn’t ready for it yet…now I am! I’m actually re-watching it again at night and cannot get enough! I don’t LOL often, but that show kills me! Richmond is my favorite…also Moss…ok Roy too! #mcm

Oh how I love Singin’ in the Rain! Such a classic! And of course, Legally Blonde (movie and musical) FTW!

I LOVE that Monty Python is on your list. So much yes. And now that I’ve finally seen Parks and Rec I have to agree. I only finished it not too long ago, and I’m already ready for a re-watch.
