Why I Am Not Sure How I Feel About The Powerpuff Girls Returning to TV

A couple of days ago, Variety reported that Cartoon Network is planning on rebooting The Powerpuff Girls in 2016. I don’t think anyone is terribly surprised here. The network aired a 15th anniversary special in January (starring Ringo Starr, because of course it did), and with this huge surge of nostalgia-fueled series reboots like Girl Meets World and The Magic School Bus, it’s not surprising Cartoon Network jumped on the “You Know You Were a Nineties Kid When…” programming bandwagon.

For me, The Powerpuff Girls were my first real dive into the world of superheros. I didn’t really explore too deep into the world of Marvel and DC until high school. Following the exploits of some random guy in spandex fighting weird, scary-looking villains didn’t really appeal to me when I was younger. I knew who superheroes like Spiderman, Superman, and Batman were, but I wasn’t too interested. The superheroes I loved were The Powerpuff Girls, mainly because I could relate to those girls. They wore dresses, but they were tough and could take care of themselves–and the entire city of Townsville…
